Split take-home pay into needs, wants, and saving. Default weights are 50 / 30 / 20.
| Needs | – |
| Wants | – |
| Save | – |
Use this budget-rule calculator to turn monthly take-home pay into three envelopes. Saving is the residual after needs and wants, so those two percents must add to at most 100. Change the weights for 70/20/10 or any other split; this is not a full budget app.
Needs = income × needs%. Wants = income × wants%. Save = income × (1 − needs% − wants%).
Take-home / month: Net pay after tax for the month.
Needs (%): Share for essentials (housing, food, utilities, minimum debt).
Wants (%): Share for discretionary spending.
Needs: Currency in the needs envelope.
Wants: Currency in the wants envelope.
Save: Currency left for saving or extra debt payments.
