Use this burn-rate calculator for a startup or any cash-consuming project. Net burn is spend minus revenue for the month. Runway is cash divided by net burn, in months.
If revenue covers spend, net burn is zero or negative (you are cash-flow positive). Zero net burn returns a runway of 0; a negative net burn returns 999 months as a sentinel that you are not burning. This ignores future hiring, fundraising, and seasonality.
Cash on hand: Liquid cash you can spend.
Monthly spend: Total cash leaving this month.
Monthly revenue: Cash coming in this month.
Net burn / month: Spend minus revenue (negative means surplus).
Runway (months): How long cash lasts at this net burn.
