Calculate COD as milligrams of oxygen per litre of wastewater sample.
| COD (mg/L) | – |
Use this calculator in a plant lab when the digestion used a known milligrams of O₂ and you measured a sample volume, and you need mg/L COD.
COD = oxygen used (mg) ÷ sample volume (L). Sample volume can be entered in litres (L) or gallons (gal); the calculator converts to litres. A 50 mL sample is 0.05 L. This is the definition from oxygen consumed, not a dichromate blank calculation.
O₂ consumed (mg): Oxygen consumed by the sample, in milligrams, from the titration or kit. Do not convert this field; it stays in milligrams.
Sample volume: Sample volume in L or gal.
COD (mg/L): Chemical oxygen demand in milligrams of O₂ per litre.
