Density Calculator

Find density ρ = m / V and specific gravity versus water at 1000 kg/m³.

Specific gravity

About this calculator

Use this calculator for SI density: mass divided by volume, in kilograms per cubic metre. Specific gravity is ρ / 1000, the ratio to liquid water near 4 °C. 2 kg in 1 litre (0.001 m³) is 2000 kg/m³ and specific gravity 2. Water is about 1000 kg/m³; dry air at sea level is about 1.2 kg/m³.

Mass and volume must be greater than zero and already in kg and m³. For unit conversion alone, use the density converter. Specific gravity here always compares to 1000 kg/m³, not to a temperature-corrected water table.

Mass (kg): Mass in kilograms.

Volume (m³): Volume in cubic metres. 1 litre is 0.001 m³.

Density (kg/m³): ρ = m / V.

Specific gravity: ρ divided by 1000 kg/m³.
