Use this calculator before you buy dressmaking or curtain fabric by the metre.
Length is piece length × pieces × (1 + waste). Two 150 cm lengths with 10% extra is 3.3 m. Piece length can be centimetres (cm) or inches (in); the result is metres (m) or feet (ft) in the same system. Bolt width is not used; that is a cutting-layout problem. Round up at the shop.
Piece: Length of one piece along the bolt, in cm or in.
Pieces: How many pieces.
Waste: Extra percent for mistakes and shrinkage. Type 10 for 10%.
Cloth length: Total to buy.
