Use this calculator for a pallet or carton quote when the carrier bills the greater of actual mass and dimensional mass.
Volume is length × width × height × pieces, converted from centimetres to cubic metres (÷ 1 000 000). Dimensional kilograms are that same centimetre cube divided by the carrier factor. 120×80×100 cm is 0.96 m³. A typical air factor is 5 000 or 6 000 (cm³ per kg). Dimensions can be centimetres (cm) or inches (in); inches convert to centimetres before the formula, so keep a metric divisor (not 166). Billable weight is the max of actual kg and dim kg, which you still compare yourself. Cubic metres are not converted.
Length, width, height: Outside size of one piece, in cm or in.
Pieces: How many identical pieces.
Dim divisor: Carrier dimensional-weight divisor for centimetres (often 5000).
m³: Chargeable volume.
Dim kg: Dimensional mass; shown in kg or lb.
