Use this FTE calculator for headcount planning, grant budgets, or mixed part-time teams. The default full-year is 2080 hours (40 × 52). Public-sector and many EU contracts use 36–39 hour weeks — change the denominator.
FTE = hours worked ÷ hours in a full-time year. The result can be fractional (2.5 means two and a half full-time posts).
Hours worked: Total hours across the people and period you are counting.
Hours in a full-time year: The full-time standard for that organisation.
FTE: Full-time equivalent headcount.
