About this calculator

Use this calculator for an ideal-gas process that holds one variable fixed. Boyle uses P₁, V₁ and V₂ and returns P₂ at fixed temperature. Charles uses V₁ and the two Celsius temperatures and returns V₂ at fixed pressure. Gay-Lussac uses P₁ and the two Celsius temperatures and returns P₂ at fixed volume. Unused boxes can stay at the defaults.

Temperatures are entered in Celsius and converted to kelvin internally (add 273.15). They must stay above absolute zero. Boyle at 101325 Pa, 0.001 m³ → 0.002 m³ gives P₂ = 50662.5 Pa. Real gases deviate at high pressure or near condensation.

Law: Which relation to apply.

P₁ (Pa): Start pressure. Used for Boyle and Gay-Lussac.

V₁ (m³): Start volume. Used for Boyle and Charles.

V₂ (m³): End volume. Boyle only, to find P₂.

T₁ (°C): Start temperature in Celsius. Charles and Gay-Lussac.

T₂ (°C): End temperature in Celsius. Charles and Gay-Lussac.

Result: P₂ (Boyle or Gay-Lussac) or V₂ (Charles).
