Reaction Yield Calculator

Percent yield from what you isolated versus what stoichiometry promised.

Percent yield

About this calculator

Use this calculator at the end of an organic prep: theoretical grams from the limiting reagent, actual grams on the balance.

The calculation is percent yield = (actual / theoretical) × 100. Use the same unit on both amounts (both grams, or both moles).

This is the definition of percent yield. It does not compute the theoretical amount from a balanced equation; use Molar Ratio first if you still need that.

Theoretical amount: Theoretical amount from the stoichiometry, grams or moles.

Actual amount: What you actually recovered, same unit.

Percent yield: Actual as a percent of theoretical. 80 means you isolated 80% of the theoretical mass.
