About this calculator

Use this calculator to find the volume, total surface area, and space diagonal of a rectangular prism (a box with right angles) from length, width, and height. If all three edges are equal, the solid is a cube.

The formulas are: volume = l w h, surface area = 2 (l w + l h + w h), and space diagonal = √(l² + w² + h²). The space diagonal runs from one corner through the interior to the opposite corner.

Use the same length unit for all three edges. Volume is in that unit cubed; surface area is in that unit squared; the diagonal stays a length.

Length: First edge of the box.

Width: Second edge of the box.

Height: Third edge of the box.

Volume: The space enclosed by the prism, l w h.

Surface: The total area of the six rectangular faces.

Space diagonal: The interior corner-to-corner distance.
