RSI

About this calculator

Use this RSI calculator when you already have Wilder-smoothed average gain and average loss (often over 14 periods). It does not build those averages from a price series. RSI above 70 is often called overbought; below 30 oversold—rules of thumb, not signals.

RS = average gain ÷ average loss. RSI = 100 − 100 / (1 + RS). If average loss is zero, RSI is 100. Both averages should be in the same price units (points, not percent).

Avg gain: Wilder (or simple) average of up-period moves.

Avg loss: Wilder (or simple) average of down-period moves, as a positive number.

RSI: Relative Strength Index, 0 to 100.
