Simple Harmonic Motion Calculator

Find ω = √(k/m), period, and frequency for an undamped mass on a spring.

ω (rad/s)
Period (s)
Frequency (Hz)

About this calculator

Use this calculator for ideal SHM of a mass on a spring: F = −k x with no damping. Angular frequency is ω = √(k/m), period T = 2π/ω, frequency f = 1/T.

Amplitude does not appear: in ideal SHM the period does not depend on how far you pull it. Damping, a driven oscillator, or a pendulum at large angle are different problems.

k (N/m): Spring stiffness, in newtons per metre.

Mass (kg): Oscillating mass, in kilograms, greater than zero.

ω (rad/s): Angular frequency in radians per second.

Period (s): Time for one cycle.

Frequency (Hz): Cycles per second.
