Use this calculator to find the volume and surface area of a sphere from the radius. It applies to balls, globes, bubbles, and any other perfectly round solid.
The formulas are: volume = (4/3) π r³ and surface area = 4 π r². Enter the radius, not the diameter (the diameter is 2 r). Keep one length unit throughout: volume is then in that unit cubed and surface area in that unit squared.
A hemisphere has half the volume of the full sphere. If you also include the flat circular face, the hemisphere surface is 3 π r² rather than 2 π r².
Radius: Distance from the centre to the surface, not the diameter.
Volume: The space enclosed by the sphere.
Surface: The outer area of the sphere, 4 π r².
