About this calculator

Use this calculator to pick a ballpark video bitrate from frame size, fps, and an effective bits-per-pixel figure after compression.

Mbps = width × height × fps × bpp / 1e6. 1920×1080×30×0.1 is about 6.22 Mbps. 0.1 bpp is a mild H.264-style figure. Motion, codecs, and scene complexity move it a lot.

Width: Frame width in pixels.

Height: Frame height in pixels.

fps: Frames per second.

bits/pixel: Effective bits per pixel after compression.

Mbps: Estimated bitrate in megabits per second.
