About this calculator

Use this calculator for special-relativistic time dilation: t₀ is proper time on the clock that moves with the object; t is that interval in a frame where the object moves at speed v.

v must stay below c (2.99792458×10⁸ m/s). At 1×10⁸ m/s, γ is only about 1.06; near c it grows quickly. Gravity (general relativity) is a different dilation.

Proper time (s): Time on the moving clock, in seconds.

Speed (m/s): Speed relative to the observer, less than c.

Dilated time (s): t = γ t₀.

γ: Lorentz factor 1 / √(1 − v²/c²).
