Suggested seat distance as screen diagonal times a multiplier.
| Distance | – |
Use this calculator to sketch a seating distance from the screen diagonal and a multiplier. Enter the diagonal and the factor. The diagonal defaults to inches; you can switch centimetres (cm) or inches (in). The result is shown in the same length unit.
Distance = diagonal × multiplier. A 55 inch set at 1.6× is about 88 in (224 cm). Common factors sit around 1.2 to 2.0 depending on resolution and taste. THX and SMPTE recommend viewing angles, not one multiplier. Mounting height is a separate comfort choice.
Diagonal: Screen diagonal. Enter in or cm.
Multiplier: Often 1.2 to 2.0.
Distance: Suggested seat distance in the same unit as the diagonal.
