Add tax to a net price, or extract it from a price that already includes VAT, GST, or sales tax.

Use this VAT calculator for everyday tax on a receipt. Pick whether the amount you typed is before tax (add) or already includes it (extract). Italian IVA, UK VAT, GST, and US-style sales tax all use the same two identities.
The rate is a percent: type 22 for 22%. Adding tax: net = amount, VAT = net × rate, gross = net × (1 + rate). Extracting: gross = amount, net = gross ÷ (1 + rate), VAT = gross − net. Currency is whatever you enter for the amount.
Amount: The money figure on the quote or receipt.
Rate (%): The tax rate as a percent, e.g. 22 for Italian IVA, 20 for UK VAT.
Mode: Add tax if you started from a net price. Extract if the price is already gross.
Net: Price before tax.
VAT: The tax amount.
Gross: Price including tax.
