Find the unloaded tap voltage Vout = Vin × R2 / (R1 + R2).
| Vout (V) | – |
Use this calculator for a two-resistor potential divider with no load on the tap: R1 is the upper resistor from Vin to the tap, R2 from the tap to ground.
Equal resistors halve the voltage. A load on the tap pulls Vout down; this formula ignores that load. Both resistances must be positive.
Vin (V): Input voltage, in volts.
R₁ (Ω): From input to the tap, in ohms.
R₂ (Ω): From the tap to ground, in ohms.
Vout (V): Unloaded tap voltage.
