Find wave speed v = f λ from frequency and wavelength.
| Speed (m/s) | – |
Use this calculator for a periodic wave: speed in the medium is frequency times wavelength.
A 440 Hz tone with λ = 0.78 m travels at about 343 m/s, typical for air. Light in vacuum is a different constant, about 3×10⁸ m/s; do not mix that with this product unless f and λ already belong to that wave.
Frequency (Hz): Cycles per second.
Wavelength (m): Distance between crests, in metres.
Speed (m/s): v = f λ.
