Compare arm span with standing height to get the ape index difference and the span-to-height ratio.

Use this calculator to compare your arm span with your standing height. Enter height and span in centimetres (cm) or inches (in); the unit selector converts both measurements automatically before the calculation.
The ape index is span minus height. The ratio is span divided by height. A result of +5 cm (ratio about 1.03) means the arms are a little long relative to height, a proportion often seen in swimming and climbing. A result near 0 cm (ratio about 1.00) means span and height are almost the same.
This is a body-proportion measure, not a talent score, strength test, or injury prediction. Measuring without shoes and with the arms fully stretched fingertip to fingertip gives the most consistent numbers.
Height: Standing height without shoes. Enter the value in cm or in.
Span: Fingertip-to-fingertip arm span with the arms stretched horizontally. Use the same length unit as height.
Span − height: Difference between span and height, shown in the selected length unit. Positive means a longer span than height.
Ratio: Arm span divided by height. A value of 1.03 means the span is 3% longer than the height.
