Use this calculator to size a rectangular asphalt layer before you order mix. Enter the length and width of the area and the compacted thickness of the course.
The calculation is: volume (m³) = length × width × (thickness ÷ 100). Mass in tonnes is volume × 2300 kg/m³ ÷ 1000. Length and width can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft); thickness in centimetres (cm) or inches (in). The unit selector converts them before the formula runs. Volume is reported in cubic metres. Tonnage uses a bulk density of 2300 kg/m³, a typical dense hot-mix figure.
This is a geometric takeoff. It does not add waste, compaction loss, edge thickening, or a tack coat, and it is not a mill-ticket density.
Length: Long side of the pad, in m or ft.
Width: Short side of the pad, in m or ft.
Thickness: Compacted course thickness, in cm or in. A driveway wearing course is often around 4–6 cm.
Volume (m³): Compacted asphalt volume in cubic metres.
Tonnage: Estimated mass in metric tonnes from volume × 2300 kg/m³.
