About this calculator

Use this calculator to order facing bricks for a single-skin rectangular wall. Enter the wall area, the brick face length and height, the mortar joint, and a waste percent.

Each brick occupies (length + joint) × (height + joint) on the wall face. Count = wall area ÷ that module, then multiplied by (1 + waste ÷ 100). Wall area can be entered in square metres (m²) or square feet (ft²). Brick sizes and the joint can be entered in millimetres (mm) or inches (in).

This is a stretcher-bond face count. It does not add headers, openings, or a second skin.

Wall area: Net or gross wall face, in m² or ft².

Brick length: Face length of one brick, in mm or in. A metric modular brick is often 215 mm.

Brick height: Face height of one brick, in mm or in. Often 65 mm.

Joint: Mortar joint thickness, in mm or in. Often 10 mm.

Waste (%): Extra percent for cuts and breakage, for example 5–10.

Bricks: Estimated brick count including waste.
