Use this calculator before you weld a structural steel when the mill cert lists C, Mn, Cr, Mo, V, Ni, and Cu in mass percent.
The IIW formula is CE = C + Mn/6 + (Cr + Mo + V)/5 + (Ni + Cu)/15, with each element as a mass percent. A higher CE generally means more preheat or a more tightly controlled procedure. Enter 0 for any element the cert does not list.
This is the IIW carbon equivalent only. It is not CET, PCM, or a WPS; it does not set preheat by itself.
C %: Carbon, mass percent, for example 0.18.
Mn %: Manganese, mass percent.
Cr %: Chromium, mass percent. 0 if not listed.
Mo %: Molybdenum, mass percent. 0 if not listed.
V %: Vanadium, mass percent. 0 if not listed.
