Estimate litres of paint, stain, or epoxy from area, number of coats, and coverage rate.
| Volume | – |
Use this calculator to order paint, deck stain, or epoxy for a rectangular surface. Enter the area, how many coats, and the coverage printed on the tin in m² per litre.
Litres = (area × coats) ÷ coverage. Area can be entered in square metres (m²) or square feet (ft²). Coverage stays in m²/L as on the data sheet. Volume is shown in litres (L) or gallons (gal).
This does not add waste, primer, or a thicker first coat. Porous timber often takes more than the tin claims.
Area: Area to coat, in m² or ft².
Coats: Number of coats.
Coverage (m²/L): Spreading rate from the tin, for example 10 m²/L.
Volume: Paint volume in litres or gallons.
