About this calculator

Use this coffee ratio calculator when you have a bag of beans, a scale, and you want a pour-over, batch brew, or a concentrate to keep in the fridge.

Hot water is coffee mass × the hot ratio (16 means 16 g of water per gram of coffee, a typical filter 1:15–1:17). Cold-brew water uses the second ratio, usually stronger (1:5–1:8) before you dilute. Cups are US 8 oz cups, about 237 g of water. Coffee mass can be entered in grams, ounces, or pounds. This is not a coffee-footprint tool.

Coffee: Coffee on the scale. 18 g is a typical single pour-over; 30 g is a small cafetière.

Hot brew ratio (water:coffee): Parts water to one part coffee for the hot brew. Type 16 for 1:16; filter is often 15–17.

Cold-brew ratio: Same idea for cold brew. Type 8 for a concentrate you will later cut with water or milk.

Hot water: Water mass for the hot brew.

Cold-brew water: Water mass for the cold-brew jar.

Hot brew (US cups): The hot water expressed as US 8 oz cups.
