About this calculator

Use this cooking conversion calculator when the recipe is in cups and your scale speaks grams, or when you only have a measuring spoon and the bottle is labelled in millilitres.

The amount is converted with a pantry density for the ingredient you pick. Flour is treated as about 0.53 g per ml, packed, not a laboratory density. A US cup is 236.6 ml. Grams, millilitres, cups, and tablespoons are the same pile in different units. Densities are kitchen averages; sifted flour, packed brown sugar, and melted butter will differ.

Ingredient: The food you are measuring. Flour, sugar, and honey each have a different kitchen density.

Amount: The number on the recipe, without the unit. Type 1.5 for one and a half cups, or 200 for 200 g.

Unit: The unit that amount is already in: a US cup, tablespoon, teaspoon, grams, or millilitres.

Grams, ml, cups, tablespoons: The same quantity expressed in those units.
