Use this calculator to order deck boards for a rectangular deck. Enter length, width, board width, gap between boards, and a waste percent.
Area = length × width. Linear metres = (area ÷ (board width + gap)) × (1 + waste ÷ 100), with millimetre sizes converted to metres. Length and width can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft). Board width and gap can be entered in millimetres (mm) or inches (in). Area is shown in m² or ft²; linear length in m or ft.
This is a face takeoff. It does not count joists, posts, or hidden fasteners.
Length: Long side of the deck, in m or ft.
Width: Short side, in m or ft.
Board width: Face width of one board, in mm or in.
Gap: Gap between boards, in mm or in.
Waste (%): Extra percent for cuts.
Area: Deck area.
Linear length: Total board length including waste.
