About this calculator

Use this calculator to count studs for a straight wall. Enter the wall length, the on-centre spacing, and extra studs for corners, doubles, or openings.

Studs = floor(length ÷ spacing) + 1 + extra, with length converted to millimetres so it matches the spacing. Length can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft). Spacing can be entered in millimetres (mm) or inches (in). A common spacing is 400 or 600 mm (about 16 or 24 in).

This is a stick count on a straight run. It does not size plates, headers, or a second wall.

Length: Wall length, in m or ft.

Spacing: On-centre stud spacing, in mm or in.

Extra: Additional studs for corners, trimmers, or kings.

Studs: Total stud count.
