About this calculator

Use this calculator for a restroom or kitchen when you want a mass-of-carbon comparison between paper and a warm-air dryer.

The calculation is: kg = dries per day × days × grams CO₂e per dry / 1,000. Saved kg is paper minus dryer. Defaults of 12 g (paper) and 4 g (dryer) are planning figures for one dry; real towels, dryer wattage, and grid carbon move those numbers.

This is not a hygiene ranking and it ignores the dryer manufacture and the paper supply chain beyond the grams you type.

Dries / day: How many times hands are dried in a typical day.

Paper g CO₂e / dry: Grams of CO₂e for one paper-towel dry.

Dryer g CO₂e / dry: Grams of CO₂e for one electric-dryer cycle.

Days: How many days to total. 365 is a year.

Paper / dryer kg: Carbon of each option over that period.

Saved kg: Paper minus dryer.
