About this calculator

Use this calculator for a steel, aluminium, copper, glass, concrete, brick, stone, limestone, pine, or oak plate or slab. Enter the material, length, width, and thickness.

Volume (m³) = length × width × (thickness ÷ 1000). Mass = volume × the typical density of the material (steel 7850 kg/m³, aluminium 2700, copper 8960, glass 2500, concrete 2400, brick 1800, stone 2700, limestone 2550, pine 500, oak 750). Length and width can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft); thickness in millimetres (mm) or inches (in). Mass is shown in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb). Tonnes stay in metric tonnes.

Densities are planning figures, not mill certificates. The piece is treated as a solid rectangle.

Material: Material whose typical density is used.

Length: Long side, in m or ft.

Width: Short side, in m or ft.

Thickness: Plate thickness, in mm or in.

Volume (m³): Volume in cubic metres.

Mass: Estimated mass.

Tonnage: Same mass in metric tonnes.
