About this calculator

Use this calculator for the Parkland formula: 4 ml × kg × %TBSA over 24 hours from the time of injury, with half in the first 8 hours and the rest over the next 16. It is a starting crystalloid sketch; urine output then titrates the rate. Superficial burns, inhalation injury, and delayed presentation change the plan. This does not replace a burns service.

Weight can be entered in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb); the calculator converts to kilograms before the formula. Volumes are shown in millilitres (ml) or fluid ounces (fl oz).

Weight: Body weight, in kg or lb.

TBSA (%): Burned surface area, percent.

24 h: Total crystalloid for 24 hours.

First 8 h: Half of that total.
