About this calculator

Use this party portions calculator when planning a BBQ, taco night, or a movie pile of popcorn: type the headcount and how greedy the plate should be.

Totals are simply guests × the per-person amounts. Meat and sides come back in kilograms (grams × people ÷ 1000). Popcorn stays in litres of popped corn. 220 g of meat is a generous grill plate; edit the grams for tacos, ham, or mashed potatoes. Per-person mass can be grams, ounces, or pounds; popcorn volume litres or gallons.

Guests: Headcount, including kids if they eat a full plate. 12 is a backyard party.

Meat / person: Cooked-meat mass per person. 220 g is a hearty BBQ plate; 120 g is more like tacos with fillings.

Sides / person: Sides (salad, potatoes, bread) per person. 180 g is a full extra spoonful.

Popped corn / person: Volume of popped corn per person. 1 L is a big movie bowl; type 0 if you are not serving it.

Meat and sides: Total mass to buy or cook.

Popcorn: Total popped volume.
