Estimate cooked pasta or rice from the dry bag, and how much water the rice wants.

Use this pasta and rice calculator when you are scaling a week-night pot and the pack only lists dry weight, or when you need a water amount for the rice cooker.
Dry pasta is treated as about 2.25× its weight once cooked. White rice is about 3× cooked. Rice cooking water is dry grams × the ratio you type (2 means twice the rice by weight, and millilitres of water ≈ grams). Brown rice usually wants a higher ratio. Absorption still varies by shape. Dry mass can be grams, ounces, or pounds.
Dry pasta: Dry pasta from the bag. 100 g is a generous single plate; 400 g feeds four.
Dry rice: Uncooked rice. 180 g is about a US cup, enough for two hungry people.
Water / rice (weight): Water per gram of rice by weight. Type 2 for the usual 1:2 white-rice pot, 2.5 if you like it softer.
Cooked pasta and cooked rice: Approximate cooked mass.
Rice water: Water volume for the rice (ml ≈ g at density 1).
