About this calculator

Use this calculator to measure how much a quantity rose or fell between two readings: a price, a headcount, a score, or any pair of numbers in the same unit. A positive percent is an increase; a negative percent is a decrease.

The calculations are: difference = final − initial, and percent change = (difference ÷ initial) × 100. If the initial value is 0, the percent is returned as 0 because division by zero is undefined.

This is not the symmetric percent-difference tool, which divides by the average of both values. Keep both numbers in the same unit.

Initial: The starting value (the baseline).

Final: The ending value, in the same unit as the initial.

Change: Percent change from the initial value.

Difference: Final minus initial, in the original unit.
