About this calculator

Use this calculator for a household plastic total from weekly bottles and shoppers, plus packaging you already know as a yearly mass, and to see a reduction goal.

Bottles and bags are multiplied by 52 weeks. Each PET bottle is taken as 25 g and each shopper as 6 g. Other plastic is added as a yearly mass. You can enter that extra mass in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb); the calculator converts automatically. The cut is a simple percentage off the total. This is mass of plastic, not a full life-cycle study.

Bottles / week: Single-use drink bottles you buy in a typical week. A couple a day is about 14.

Bags / week: Thin shopper bags in a typical week. Reusable totes can be zero here.

Other plastic: Packaging, film, and other plastic you already know as a yearly mass, in kg or lb, not per week.

Cut (%): How much you hope to cut, 0–100. 20 means the leftover mass is 80% of today’s total.

kg / year: Estimated plastic mass this year.

After the cut: Plastic mass left after the reduction.
