About this calculator

Use this calculator for a first takeoff of a mesh or bar grid in a slab. Enter length, width, on-centre spacing, and the mass per metre of one bar.

Bars along the length = floor(width ÷ spacing) + 1. Bars across = floor(length ÷ spacing) + 1. Linear metres = along × length + across × width. Mass = linear metres × kg per m. Length and width can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft). Spacing can be entered in millimetres (mm) or inches (in). Mass is shown in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb). kg per metre stays in kg/m.

This is a rectangular grid. It does not add laps, chairs, or openings.

Length: Slab length, in m or ft.

Width: Slab width, in m or ft.

Spacing: On-centre spacing each way, in mm or in.

Mass per metre (kg/m): Unit mass of one bar, from a table.

Bars: Total number of bars both ways.

Mass: Estimated steel mass.
