About this calculator

Use this calculator to order ceramic or stone tiles for a rectangular area. Enter the area, the tile face length and width, and a waste percent.

Tiles = (area ÷ (length × width)) × (1 + waste ÷ 100), with tile sizes converted from millimetres to metres. Area can be entered in square metres (m²) or square feet (ft²). Tile length and width can be entered in millimetres (mm) or inches (in).

This is a face-area count. It does not add grout volume, trims, or a second row of waste for a diagonal layout unless you raise the waste percent.

Area: Net area to tile, in m² or ft².

Tile length: Face length of one tile, in mm or in.

Tile width: Face width of one tile, in mm or in.

Waste (%): Extra percent for cuts, often 10, or 15 on a diagonal.

Tiles: Estimated tile count including waste.
