Estimate equal-leg fillet throat and weld metal mass from leg size, length, and density.
| Throat | – |
| Mass | – |
Use this calculator for a first mass of an equal-leg fillet. Enter the leg, the weld length, and density in kg/m³ (steel is often 7850).
Throat = leg / √2. Volume = 0.5 × leg² × length, with the leg in metres. Mass = volume × density. Leg can be entered in millimetres (mm) or inches (in). Length can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft). Throat follows mm or in; mass is shown in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb).
This is a triangular fillet with no convexity, reinforcement, or spatter. It is not a WPS or a strength check.
Leg: Equal-leg size, in mm or in.
Length: Weld length, in m or ft.
Density (kg/m³): Filler density. Steel ~7850.
Throat: Theoretical throat of an equal-leg fillet.
Mass: Estimated weld-metal mass.
