About this calculator

Use this calculator for continuous compounding: a population modelled with e^(rt), radioactive decay with a negative rate, or the exponential function itself. Discrete compounding of the form start × (1 + r)^t belongs on the power page, not here.

The calculation is: value = start × e^(r t), where r is the continuous rate as a decimal (5 means 5%, so r = 0.05). A negative rate decays. Time t uses the same unit the rate is quoted in (per year with t in years, and so on).

Start: Amount at t = 0.

Continuous rate (%): Percent per time unit. Negative values decay.

Time: Elapsed time in the same units as the rate.

Value: Amount at time t.
