Use this calculator to obtain the feed conversion ratio (FCR) for poultry, pigs, fish, cattle, or other livestock over a chosen period. A lower FCR means more efficient conversion of feed into gain.
The calculation is: FCR = feed mass ÷ gain mass. Feed and gain must use the same mass unit, such as kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb). The unit selector is handled automatically, so both mass inputs can be entered in kg or lb. Gain must be greater than zero.
FCR is a period efficiency number. It does not separate maintenance from growth, and it does not adjust for mortality, feed wastage, or changes in gut fill.
Feed mass: Total feed consumed by the animals over the period, in kg or lb.
Gain mass: Total live-weight gain over the same period, in the same mass unit as the feed.
FCR: Kilograms (or pounds) of feed per kilogram (or pound) of gain. For example, 3 means three units of feed were used for each unit of gain.
