About this calculator

Use this calculator for arithmetic on two fractions a/b and c/d. Addition and subtraction use a common denominator: a/b ± c/d = (ad ± bc) / (bd). Multiplication is (a/b)×(c/d) = (ac)/(bd). Division multiplies by the reciprocal: (a/b)÷(c/d) = (ad)/(bc).

Neither denominator may be 0, and you cannot divide by a zero numerator on the second fraction. The result is reduced by the GCD and the denominator is kept positive. The decimal is the reduced numerator divided by the reduced denominator.

Numerator 1: Top of the first fraction.

Denominator 1: Bottom of the first, not zero.

Operation: Add, subtract, multiply, or divide.

Numerator 2: Top of the second.

Denominator 2: Bottom of the second, not zero.

Numerator: Reduced numerator of the result.

Denominator: Reduced denominator of the result.

Decimal: The result as a decimal.
