Weight in kilograms is (heart girth)² × body length ÷ 11880, with both measurements in centimetres. That is the common Carroll and Huntington tape formula. Heart girth and body length can be entered in centimetres (cm) or inches (in); inches are converted to centimetres before the calculation. Weight is shown in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb).
Heart girth is the tape around the barrel just behind the elbows. Body length is the point of the shoulder to the point of the buttock. Condition, breed, pregnancy, and gut fill can move the true weight away from this estimate.
Heart girth: Tape around the chest just behind the elbows, in cm or in.
Body length: Point of the shoulder to the point of the buttock, in cm or in.
Weight: Estimated body mass from the tape formula.
