Nth Root Calculator

Calculate the real nth root of a number, including cube and fourth roots.

n√x

About this calculator

Use this calculator for ⁿ√x when n is not 2. Cube root is n = 3; fourth root is n = 4. The dedicated square-root page is the simpler case for n = 2 and x ≥ 0.

The calculation is: root = sign(x) × |x|^(1/n). The degree n cannot be 0. Even integer degrees of a negative x are refused (no complex branch). Odd degrees of a negative, such as ³√(−27) = −3, are allowed.

Value: The radicand x.

n: The degree of the root (3 for a cube root, 4 for a fourth root).

n√x: The real nth root.
