Use this calculator when a percent applies to another percent: “20% of a 50% share”, a commission on a rate, or nested discounts described as a percent of a percent. The result is still in percentage points of the original whole.
The calculation is: combined = (outer ÷ 100) × inner. So 20% of 50% is 10 (meaning 10% of the original). This is not adding percentage points (20 + 50 = 70) and not successive discounts of the form (1 − a)(1 − b).
Outer (%): The outer percent you apply (20 means 20%).
Inner (%): The inner percent you are taking a slice of (50 means 50%).
Combined (%): The product as a percent of the original whole.
