Estimate daily grams of kibble from calories, or raw food as a percent of body weight.
| Daily amount | – |
Use this calculator as a bowl-size sketch, not a feeding prescription. For kibble or wet food you need the calories on the bag and a daily energy target (from the Pet Calories calculator or your veterinarian). For raw feeding, a common starting range is about 2–3% of body weight.
Kibble grams = (kcal per day ÷ kcal per 100 g) × 100. Raw grams = body weight in kg × 1,000 × (raw percent ÷ 100). You can enter weight in kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb); the daily amount is shown in grams (g), ounces (oz), or pounds (lb). Energy need and food energy are ignored on the raw path; weight and the raw percent are ignored on the kibble path except that weight must still be entered.
Diet: Kibble/wet uses calories. Raw uses a percent of body weight instead.
Weight: Body weight, in kg or lb, used for the raw path.
Energy need (kcal/day): Daily energy target in kcal. Used for kibble/wet.
Food energy (kcal/100 g): What the bag lists per 100 g. Used for kibble/wet.
Raw % of body weight: Percent of body weight as raw food. 2.5 is a common start.
Daily amount: Estimated food mass per day.
