Use this calculator for a garden bed or orchard grid that uses the same step on both axes. Length, width, and spacing can be entered in metres (m) or feet (ft); the unit selector converts values automatically before the calculation.
The count is floor(length ÷ spacing) × floor(width ÷ spacing). Remainder at the edges is dropped, so a leftover strip narrower than one spacing does not count as an extra row or column. This is a packed grid from one corner, not a layout that places a plant on every boundary (that would add one extra plant on each axis).
Length: The long side of the bed or plot.
Width: The short side of the bed or plot.
Spacing: Centre-to-centre spacing. For example, 0.3 m is 30 cm for vegetables; 5 m is a 5 m tree grid.
Plants: Whole number of plants that fit on that grid.
