Mix volume

About this calculator

Use this calculator when you are potting up and need a bag estimate. Each pot is treated as a straight cylinder. Real pots taper, you may not fill to the rim, and the saucer is ignored, so the result is a theoretical fill volume.

The calculation is: litres = pots × π × r² × h, with radius and height in decimetres (diameter and height are converted from centimetres). Inches are converted automatically before the calculation. One litre equals one cubic decimetre.

Diameter: Inside diameter at the top of the pot. Enter the value in centimetres (cm) or inches (in).

Fill height: How deep you will fill, often a little less than the pot height. Use the same length unit.

Pots: How many pots of this size you are filling.

Mix volume: Estimated potting mix volume, calculated in litres (L).
