Rabbit Color Calculator

Estimate black, chocolate, blue, and lilac litter odds from the B and D coat-colour genes of the dam and sire.

Colour ratio

About this calculator

Use this calculator for a B–D slice of rabbit coat genetics when you are planning a litter. Real colour uses more loci (including agouti, colour, and pattern series). This tool only tracks black versus chocolate (B/b) and dense versus dilute (D/d).

Phenotypes under complete dominance are: B_D_ black, B_dd blue (dilute black), bbD_ chocolate, and bbdd lilac (dilute chocolate). The colour ratio is a reduced Punnett phenotype ratio with those names. The table is the same grid with a colour name in each cell.

Dam: The doe's genotype at B and D. For example, BbDd is a black rabbit that carries chocolate and dilute.

Sire: The buck's genotype at the same two loci.

Colour ratio: Expected proportions of the four colours in the litter.

Colour square: Punnett grid of genotypes with the matching colour name.
