Use this calculator to obtain a simple roundwood volume and a timber value from diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height, and a price per cubic metre. It is a rough stem figure, not a CTLA landscape appraisal and not a full log-grade cruise.
The calculation uses a form factor of 0.5, treating the stem as a tapering cylinder: volume (m³) = 0.5 × π × (DBH/2)² × height, with DBH converted from centimetres to metres. Value is volume times the price per cubic metre. DBH can be entered in centimetres (cm) or inches (in), and height in metres (m) or feet (ft); both are converted to SI units before the volume is computed. Volume is always reported in cubic metres.
The form factor 0.5 is a generic mid-taper assumption. Real stems vary with species, height to the merchantable top, and defect. Use a height that matches how you think of the price (total height versus merchantable height).
DBH: Trunk diameter at about 1.3 m above the ground. Enter the value in cm or in.
Height: Total or merchantable height. Enter the value in m or ft.
Price per m³: Standing or roadside price per cubic metre of timber.
Stem volume: Estimated over-bark stem volume in cubic metres.
